When you put together your outfits the same way every time, after a while, you get tired of wearing your looks. This can really put you in a style rut! So, what do you do if you don’t have the budget to spend money on new clothes, but are bored to death of getting dressed?
By mixing up your wardrobe, you can create new looks without spending a dime! It can be hard to see the potential in your closet when you approach your clothes the same way each time. Follow my tips to find new looks and unlock your closet potential.
Break up Your Suit
They say you should always wear your complete suit together, so the jacket or pants won’t wear unevenly. I hate to admit it, but I have never adhered to this rule. A blazer can be a very versatile piece of clothing, especially when it doesn’t have your suit pants attached to it! Grab your work blazer and throw it over a t-shirt with some jeans or pair it with pants in a different color to create a separate coordinated look.
Don’t Try to Match
You would be surprised with how many pieces in your wardrobe actually work well together when you stop trying to match perfectly. Sometimes contrasting colors and patterns can create a very chic look. Pair patterns with patterns to create a bold stylized look. Try finding a bold pattern to accent a subtle one or stick to the same color combination. When in doubt you can always treat stripes as a solid.
When you feel like you have nothing to wear, see how many pieces in your closet are the same color. Going monochromatic makes a stylish statement. It’s not about finding exact same color, but shades or hues of one color work perfectly. Try a full-blown monochromatic look and see how many heads you turn.
Pull out the Sneakers
Sometimes it is not your outfit that needs to be mixed up, it’s your shoe game. Throwing on a coordinated pair of sneakers can give your style a new look, but don’t just put on that old pair you normally wear to the gym! Rock your cute weekend sneakers worn to run errands and style them with a more a dressy look.
Remix Your Accessories
When it comes to changing things up, your accessories can give you that fresh look you’re craving. Pull from the jewelry you would typically wear with an evening look and try it out during the day. This can add a glamorous touch to what would have been a casual look. Another way to bring some life back into an outfit is by carrying a different color bag. Try a pop of color or even pull an evening bag with some sparkle instead of your typical black clutch.
